RISING UP, a feminist climate art action @ Superfine Art Fair @ Art Deco Welcome Center | Miami Beach | Florida | United States

RISING UP is a collective response to climate change, using saris from Bangladesh, wind, sand, water, and materials found in Miami Beach. Bose collaborates with women from Miami and her ancestral island village in Bangladesh to create a transborder link between coastal peoples. Women’s leadership is key to addressing climate change and reducing our use of fossil fuels. A massive sea colored sari with handwritten climate pledges will move from the fair to the rising sea. RISING UP will include singing, writing, movement, and references to women’s leadership in art and governance.

The performance is part of STORYTELLING WITH SARIS, a collaborative art and advocacy project highlighting gender and climate change. People of all ages and genders and invited to join, but the art action will be lead by women.

One Billion Rising – Miami will be joining and co-sponsoring the performance.

Lead artist: Monica Jahan Bose
Participants: Marya Meyer, Kathryn Villano, Diane Adkins, Leah Stoddard, Meredith Mia, Juanita-Marie Franklin, Farhana Akhter, and more.

After the performance, join us at Superfine! for a panel discussion on art and climate change at 5 pm, followed by a screening of short performance art films by Monica Jahan Bose at 6 pm.
