Poetry & Climate Action with Moms

Thank you to Moms Clean Air Force and all our participants for a powerful workshop to kick off the new year!  It was such an exhilarating gathering and you all brought so much positive energy and creativity!  Your poems and letters were amazing.  This is the Mom’s Clean Air Act petition to EPA that you can sign demanding strong regulations to address methane pollution.  It takes just two minutes to sign the petition. If you missed the workshop, you can still write a poem about climate change and a letter to EPA.  Here is a video of our online live workshop.

We wrote poems about climate change, taking just six minutes to express our ideas. Here is Sherri’s poem:

A Perspective Poem – Evolving Impact on Climate Change

Extremes – Global heat and cold temperatures;
Erosion – Of the earth and it’s natural resources,
Enormous – Storms, tornadoes and devastation,
Energy – In the atmosphere and how we’re connected to nature and one another,
Empowerment – Working together in unity collaborating on solutions,
Equality – Utilizing our knowledge and sharing information to live better now and
to leave a legacy to continue the work.

And here is a portion of Sherri’s letter to EPA:

Dear EPA,

My name is Sherri Gales, an elder, residing in the Anacostia area of Washington, D.C.

I hope EPA will finalize the strongest and most comprehensive methane rules to protect public health from all sources of oil and gas methane pollution.

Please support this rule for the strongest possibilities to enhance the public safety aspects and it’s environmental impact.  D.C. has had record breaking heat waves.

The Anacostia neighborhood has sea levels rising and flooding.  Additionally, this area has less trees and shade, and more exposure to direct sun rays, which can contribute to sunburn, possible heat exhaustion and heat stroke.  It will be helpful, and beneficial to this community, to plant and provide more trees for shade and cleaner air.

Thank you for the consideration of this letter of urgency.

I urge the EPA to finalize the strongest and most comprehensive methane rules to protect public health from all sources of oil and gas methane pollution.

Sincerely,

Sherri L. Gales
